My thoughts: I have never read a collection of poetry before and I am so glad that The Princess Saves Herself in This One was the first one I picked up. This poetry book was split into four parts: the princess, the damsel, the queen, and you which showed different parts of the author’s life, taking you on a journey through works of poetry that will touch your heart. This book will grip your attention and keep you wanting more of Lovelace’s beautifully constructed words that are strung together flawlessly in different forms of poems.

This was the first book in a while that successfully gave me goosebumps while I was reading it which really encases how much Lovelace’s words moved me. Her works is raw and will rip into your heart, evoking emotion through short poems that you will want to reread over and over again. I read this entire book in one sitting and nearly highlighted every poem because each one is powerful and moving on its own, but strung together in the form of a story, it is entrancing.

There are so many important topics woven into the poems such as independence, abuse, love, grief, etc. that is represented and delivered to the reader in an honest way that will strike you. Personally knowing the author also packed an extra ton of emotion into this set of poetry for me because I got to peek into a piece of her life that I never would have known if I had not picked up her poetry collection. The Princess Saves Herself in This One is such a wondrous poetry collection that I highly recommend you pick up because it will take you on an emotional and empowering ride that you’ll never want to end.
